February 3rd, 2007 - Daytona Beach, FL
The 2007 TSW 500 marks the 9th running of the Online 500. In 1999 the first ever Online 500 was run. Little did the participants then know that this event would become one of the most prestigious and coveted events online. The Online 500 has had several ups and downs as well as hosted some of the best racing as well as some of the worst. For 2007, it was some of the best.

The drivers for the 2007 TSW 500 had to endure a few twists this year. The new qualifier race format made it a tougher task to transfer to the 175s. Qualifying speed alone wouldn't ensure very many drivers a chance in the big races. The biggest twist, however, was the use of the new DaytonaMOD track. The turns were given a new redesign in the hopes of creating more realistic racing and allowing the better handling setups and better drivers to rise to the top. Newly radiused turns in addition to added bumps made the track more difficult yet a little more fun. Even though the track had a new challenge; it was still Daytona and still a superspeedway drafting warzone.

The traditional open qualifying kicked off the 2007 TSW 500 event. Derek Wood after a controversial disqualification of Patrick Baldwin grabs the top spot along side Michael Bidney. A simple mistake by Baldwin in regards to saving his replay allowed Wood and Bidney to capture their spot in the 500. The following week saw five groups of drivers go at it for three races a peice. This would finalize the 70 drivers advancing to the GSXN.com Twin 175s. When the dust settled in the 175s; Brad Davies grabbed the race 1 win and John Gorlinsky survived a fuel mileage gamble to steal race 2.

On February 3rd, the 500 had finally come. Weeks of preparation from all 33 drivers will finally be put to the test in a 200 lap, 500 mile duel of endurance and speed. Derek Wood in the #54 Huskers Chevy Monte Carlo again grabs the top spot in qualifying along side Mathieu Bouysset in the #135.

Derek Wood led the field to the green and the early lead followed closely by the #69 of Chris Barnette. The 2006 event saw a 127 lap greenflag run to kick the 500 mile race off. For 2007, this was not the case. Lap 2 saw the first of nine cautions when the #135 of Bouysset scraped the wall off turn 4 allowing the #29 of Jason Malone to make contact sending both into the infield grass. Neither driver sustained any damage and were able to continue on. This yellow would trap the #09 of John Gorlinsky a lap down after he missed the start due to last minute setup changes.

Jacoby has the lead

Derek Wood led the field back to green on lap 7. The next lap the #55 of Nick Morse looked high with help from Barnette on the high side. Morse would breifly take the top spot over Wood. Lap 12 saw another lead change with Barnette looking low from the #44 of Matt Vassar. Not to be outdone, the #39 of Jason Jacoby decided to take a stab at the lead from his 13th starting position with help from the #51 of Marty Arnett. The very next lap Arnett grabbed the lead down low when the #39 tried to make the high line work early on.

On lap 19 the #09 of Gorlinksy regains his position on the lead lap with help from the #54 of Wood who also regains the lead. Wood kept the lead until lap 29 when the #11 of Brad Davies took his shot at the lead up high. By lap 33 Davies had finally captured the top spot at the line. Both he and Wood swapped the lead several times until lap 39 when the #54 machined stormed out front for good with the #09 leading the way just on the tail end of the lead lap.

Wood leads the race

On lap 41 a round of greenflag stops would just begin except the second caution of the race would fly when the #025 of Mark Bell gets into the #083 of Keith Mclain. A simple case of too many cars in too little of room, but nonetheless this would slow the field for the second time and allow the #09 of Gorlinsky back on the lead lap. After the yellow flag stops the #39 of Jason Jacoby would lead the field to the green with the #51 of Arnett on the tail-end of the lead lap.

Wood quickly reassumed the lead with the #11 of Davies in tow. Lap 52 saw several changes amongst the top runners with the #55 of Morse manuevering back into 2nd. On lap 56 the #69 of Barnette starting to make another charge up high with the #44 of Vassar pushing from behind. The next lap Barnett would take the lead at the line. However, this was short lived when Vassar decided to take his turn back up front. But in the end the #69 of Barnette prevailed dropping the #44 outside the top 5.

big wreck in turn 1

On lap 64 the #39 of Jacoby decided to try his hand up front again with the help of #28 of Jesse Atchison and the #83 of Aaron Schankerman. The #44 of Vassar worked his way back to 4th. The next few laps saw the high line begin to dominate as some of the fastest laps yet by the leaders were being run up high. This didn't stop a few drivers from trying some moves down low, but with little help until the next pitstop, Jacoby would enjoy several laps up front.

Pitstops began on lap 81 including the leader along with the #7 of Del Mears and the #05 of Ryan Bowers. A few laps later on lap 84 the majority of the lead pack would make their stop. When the pitstops cycled through the #28 of Atchison led a three car breakaway of Schankerman and Wood. Gorlinsky led the second group with a third group also in hot pursuit. By lap 90 the top 16 were all back together again. Lap 92 saw Barnette try another move low on the leader Atchison, but without enough help Barnette paid the price and dropped back to 7th. Lap 98 saw the third caution of the race when the #025 of Mark Bell came down into the #24 of JG Perry off the tri-oval. This was a multi car incident involving the #55, #24, #29, #135, #025, and #05. Several drivers would fall out soon after the incident. This caution also spelled trouble for the #11 of Davies as he would now be trapped a lap down after being caught speeding in the pits under green.

!

The field would again come down pitroad for some gas and new tires. This would lead to disaster for the pole sitter as while the #54 of Wood was making his pitstop; the #135 of Bouysset and the #7 of Mears got together exiting the pits. This sent the two into the #54 causing severe damage rendering the #54 unable to keep up in the draft for the rest of the event. On lap 101 the #28 of Atchison would restart in the lead and begin his dominating run of 70 trips around the 2.5 mile tri-oval out front. The #83 of Schankerman, #39 of Jacoby, #44 of Vassar, and the #7 of Mears would all restart the field in the top 5.

Atchison would take advantage of the high line speed while several drivers including the #44 and #39 of Vassar and Jacoby take a stab at unseating the #28 Havoline Ford. By lap 119 the front runners would settle in with Atchison out front, Schankerman in 2nd, the 2006 Champ Eidson in 3rd, Justin Roberts in the #84 in 4th, Jacoby 5th, Vassar 6th, Barnette 7th, Mears 8th, the #136 of Bob Shearbun 9th, and the #30 of Brett Gerber would round out the top 10. On lap 123 Jacoby would take another shot at the lead. However, with absolutely no help he would be kicked back to 9th for his troubles. Lap 139 saw yet another round of greenflag stops. On lap 143 when the pitstops cycled through the #44 of Vassar would assume the lead of a 5 car breakaway and the #28 of Atchison in 2nd. Lap 155 saw the fourth caution of the race when the #42 of Scott Christian and the #08 of Alvin Bailey get together on the backstretch. The #08 would hit the inside wall while the #42 would escape with no damage. Both would be able to continue on.

!

The restart on lap 159 would see several cars on the tail end of the lead lap including the #11 of Davies who has been up front most of the race, but much of it a lap down. Atchison would restart the field in the lead 8 cars back in line. On lap 162, what all drivers fear on superspeedways finally happened. "The Big One" struck when the #44 of Vassar came up into the #541 of Darron Turner heading into the tri-oval. The two would spin infront of the field causing the biggest wreck of the race. What spelled doom for several drivers, spelled a second chance for others. Among those would be the #11 University of Miami machine of Brad Davies. Davies during this caution was able to get back on the lead lap and back into contention.

!
The restart would come again on lap 165 with Atchison again up front. A few laps later on lap 167 the #83 car of Schankerman would wiggle up into the #136 of Bob Shearburn sending the #136 into the wall and onto its side. This would be caution six of the event. The greenflag would come back out again on lap 172 with Atchison up front, the #25 of Justin Garrett in 2nd, the 2005 Champion Bob Bryant in 3rd, Mears 4th, and Gorlinsky in 5th.

A few laps later Bryant would make his move low on the #28 and #25 with Gorlinsky and Davies in tow. Lap 176 Bryant would take the lead with the #09 and #11 in 2nd and 3rd dropping the dominating Atchison back to 4th. On lap 182 Atchison would make his charge back to the lead up high with Garrett hot on his heels. However on lap 183 Gorlinsky and Atchison would get together on the backstretch sending Atchison for a wild ride. This would be caution seven in the race which, unfortunately, ended the dominating run of the #28 Texaco Havoline Ford.

!

Bob Bryant would lead the field back down to the green on lap 186. The #84 of Justin Roberts began to show some muscle on lap 192 when he went high with the help of Schankerman, Harrison, and Garrett. Bryant went up to block the run of the #84 and Gorlinsky used the opportunity to make the move low and take the lead down into turn 3. A few laps later on lap 194 Garrett gets into the #84 of Roberts collecting several of the front runners. Gorlinsky would lead them down to the line to take the caution and what he hoped was the end of the race. Unfortunately for him, this would set up a perfect green-white-checkered finish.

The restart on lap 198 would have Gorlinsky up front, Bryant 2nd, Schankerman 3rd, Landon Harrison in the #70 in 4th, and Michael Bidney in the #43 in 5th. When the green flew, the leaders all got a nice clean single file restart with Gorlinsky leading them into turn 1. Coming off turn 2 Bryant got a good run on the #09. Gorlinsky would protect the bottom giving the outside to Bryant. The two raced side by side practically all alone heading into turn 3. Coming off 4 Harrison would take over 3rd. While the front two raced side by side everyone went with the #53 down the front stretch and into turn 1. The #84 of Roberts would clip the apron off turn 4 and spin down through the grass and back up the track in the tri-oval. The yellow would come out but it was too late as the leaders raced into turn 1.

!
Bryant would take the top spot back over Gorlinsky and immediately go to the bottom leaving Harrison and Schankerman alone up high. meanwhile the #11 of Davies made a move low but wiggled into Schankerman causing multi-car a wreck off turn 2. This would leave a three way battle for the win as the leaders raced into turn 3. Coming off 4 down to the tri-oval Harrison would get a late surge back on Gorlinsky up high while the fully taped off #25 of Garrett would make a late charge on the front three just missing 3rd at the stripe. Bob Bryant would hold off Gorlinsky to pick up his second Online 500 win in three years. Gorlinsky in 2nd, Harrison held on for 3rd, Garrett 4th, and Sean White held off Del Mears for the 5th spot.

Congratulations to Bob Bryant for his 2nd Online 500 Championship and his third straight top five in the 500. An exciting finish to an exciting and competitive 2007 TSW 500.
